Meet Dr. Sarah Chiu
Sarah Chiu, M.D., is a dedicated and accomplished cardiologist, quadruple board-certified in cardiovascular disease, echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, and internal medicine. She has advanced training in clinical non-invasive cardiology and is committed to delivering evidence-based, comprehensive, and compassionate care. Her clinical interests include preventive cardiology and women’s heart health. Dr. Chiu values building strong, trusting relationships with her patients and takes pride in providing personalized care to individuals from all backgrounds.
Dr. Chiu's Education
Dr. Chiu was born and raised in the Bay Area. She attended the Chinese University of Hong Kong on a full-tuition scholarship, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology and graduated with Second Class Upper Division Honors. She later earned a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Pre-Health Professions from San Francisco State University. Dr. Chiu received her Doctor of Medicine from the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University in North Haven, Connecticut. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center and her cardiovascular disease fellowship at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville, where she served as Chief Cardiology Fellow.
During her training, Dr. Chiu received multiple academic awards and honors. She graduated with High Distinction in Global & Community Health and was awarded the Commitment to Community Service Scholarship for her capstone project addressing food insecurity. Additionally, she earned Second Place in Original Research at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center’s Research Day for her study on cardiovascular outcomes in patients with stress cardiomyopathy.
Dedication to Excellence
In addition to her clinical duties, Dr. Chiu has a strong interest in medical education. As a cardiology fellow, she mentored residents and medical students on inpatient cardiology services and in the cardiac care unit (CCU), leading teaching sessions and clinical discussions. She was also actively involved in research during medical training, with multiple publications and national presentations in areas such as stress cardiomyopathy, lipid management, and disparities in cardiovascular care that were presented at the American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association.
Dr. Chiu speaks intermediate and written Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese) and Spanish, allowing her to connect meaningfully with patients from diverse backgrounds. Outside of medicine, she enjoys yoga, running, exploring new cuisines, and traveling with family and friends. She is excited to bring her expertise and patient-centered approach to PCA’s clinics in Laguna Hills, Irvine, and Orange.
