"MemorialCare Saddleback Medical Center Cardiologists Successfully Implant Device to Reduce Stroke Risk"
Cardiologists Cheng-Han Chen, M.D., Ph.D.; John Bahadorani, M.D.; Paul Drury, M.D., and Ashish Shah, D.O. recently performed the hospital's first implants of the Watchman Left Atrial Appendage Closure device on patients with atrial fibrillation, or AFib, an irregular and often rapid heart rate that can increase risk of stroke, heart failure and other heart-related complications.
Saddleback Medical Center
is among Orange County's first hospitals to offer the device, an alternative treatment to long-term blood thinner therapy, reducing stroke risk in patients with AFib not caused by a heart valve issue and deemed unsuitable for long-term blood thinner therapy.
"MemorialCare Saddleback Medical Center Structural Heart Disease Discussion with PCA's Medical Director Dr. Cheng-Han Chen"
Dr. Chen is responsible for PCA’s Structural Heart Disease Program, which includes TAVR, MitraClip and the latest structural heart disease interventions.
Structural heart disease covers a wide range of cardiac conditions, including valvular heart disease and defects in the muscular structure of the heart. The disease may be congenital, as well as acquired. As the American population ages, acquired disease, such as calcific (senile) aortic stenosis and mitral regurgitation has increased in importance, with 12% of adults over the age of 75 being diagnosed with the disease.
