Joseph M. Ruggio, MD

Joseph M. Ruggio, MD, FACC, FSCAI, FACP

Dr. Ruggio completed medical school at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York where he graduated AOA. He continued on with internship and residency as well as a fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Ruggio continued with his additional training at a number of outstanding institutions in the United States, focusing on interventional cardiology and endovascular medicine. Dr. Ruggio is Board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases, and Interventional Cardiology.

He is the Founder and President of Pacific Cardiovascular Associates Medical Group, Inc. (PCA) based in Southern California. Dr. Ruggio serves on national committees for healthcare reform, participates on scientific advisory panels and is a board member for several organizations that include:

  • Co-Chairman of the Quality/D2B Committee for California Chapter of the American College of Cardiology

In addition he has served as Director of Invasive/Interventional Cardiology for Anaheim Memorial Medical Center and Irvine Regional Hospital and Medical Center, a position he currently holds.

Having successfully managed over 2.5 million lives over the past 21 years, PCA continues to innovate in the area of cardiovascular guidelines, outcome assessments, best practices and information systems. Dr. Ruggio has developed mathematical models, which permit accurate predication of resource consumption and allocation, which optimize quality and cost of care. His optimization paradigms have been successfully implemented in full risk capitation contracts for large populations of commercial and senior patients including high-risk patients. The delivery system ensures high quality evidence based practice is provided in a cost effective manner.

He is evangelical about evidence based practice medicine and continues to be regarded as a high volume highly respected interventional cardiologist that is committed to the training and education of fellow cardiologists.

Dr. Ruggio has received numerous distinctions and accolades from both academic and managed care communities. He has co-authored many articles appertaining to cardiovascular medicine, interventional cardiology, and cardiovascular health care delivery in a managed care setting. He serves as an editor or advisory consultant for several clinical journals, and for various professional societies.

His academic appointment is as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California at Irvine.
